Fresh off the completion of its 36th Annual Singing Christmas Tree performances, members of the FirstSarasota Students, FirstSarasota Singles, and other church-based ministries held a special Christmas banquet and celebration for nearly 400 of Sarasota's homeless population on December 15.  Here, FirstSarasota's Arky Nelson provides images of those who served - and were served - during this unique community outreach event.

 

   

   

   

 

 

 

 

The early part of December brought to Main Street a celebration of the Christmas season as only FirstSarasota can do it, with the Worship Ministry putting on its annual Singing Christmas Tree performances - the thirty-sixth straight year it has done so!  Coupling elements of drama, song, and holiday sights and sounds, the Singing Christmas Tree treated nearly 10,000 individuals to the story of "Two Christmases," a moving tale of what happens when a pair of newlyweds are forced to experience dramatically different instances of Christmas as practiced by both sets of their parents when their vacation plans fall through.  FirstSarasota's own Arky Nelson was on hand on numerous occasions to capture the essence of this year's Singing Christmas Tree and provides on his website multiple images from its nine public performances.

On October 25, 2009, FirstSarasota, the Downtown Baptist Church played host to its annual Pumpkin Patch / Trunk-or-Treat Party, a family-friendly alternative to Halloween. Costumes and candy abounded in FirstSarasota's Family Life Center and and its adjacent parking lot, as youngsters played games, decorated cookies, participated in craft projects, and, of course, got to go "trunk-or-treating" amongst the decorated trunks of vehicles belonging to members of the FirstSarasota Students Ministry.

 

The following highlights some of the fun and frolic from this year's Pumpkin Patch / Trunk-or-Treat Party and sets the tone for next year's harvest-time fellowship.

On October 17, 2009, FirstSarasota, the Downtown Baptist Church played host to the Seventh Annual Charity Golf Tournament for Benevolence at The Meadows' Grove Golf Course, where some 20 teams went head-to-head for the honor of receiving the Dennis Gentry Trophy.
